[09/03/2009]
Running River, the PLUS-quoted company formed to invest in the renewable energy sector, has appointed Brian Sweeney as Chairman, and Alistair Forbes and Michael Royde as Executive Directors to its board of directors. Dr. Sweeney is assuming the role of Chairman, at the invitation of founding Director John Woolgar, who will in turn assume the position of Deputy Chairman. These appointments are part of the Company’s strategy of building a board that has the technical and corporate expertise to establish Running River as a leading specialist financier, developer and operator of small-scale hydroelectric projects with an emphasis on UK run-of-river schemes.
Dr. Sweeney has extensive experience in the energy and power sectors having spent over 20 years with Royal Dutch/Shell Group of companies around the world and seven years with Rolls-Royce Industrial Power Group, principally as Marketing and Business Development Director. Mr. Forbes started his career at Wilson and Company insurance brokers and subsequently negotiated its management buyout two years later. After its sale to Hogg Robinson Plc in 1984, Mr. Forbes remained on the Board of the enlarged company until 1986. He has considerable skill in advising and developing small companies having established a water component manufacturer, Waterfit Ltd, which was later sold to Delta Group. Subsequently he founded Design Bridge Ltd, a brand and package design work business focussing on the food, drink and drug industry. He has first hand experience in run-of-river hydro projects following the instillation of a 1mKW scheme on his own land in Western Scotland and is currently a director of hydro scheme specialists A F Power Ltd.
Mr. Royde has more than 25 years of experience in financial services and has worked as an Independent Financial Adviser since establishing his IFA firm in 1985. He focuses on offering his clients a lateral approach to pensions planning, mortgages, investment advice and IHT planning. Mr. Royde is a specialist in SIPP provision with circa £70 million in investments with 250 SIPP clients and 1,200 clients in total. Michael Royde is CII qualified at Diploma level and his firm is FSA authorised and a member firm of financial adviser network Burns-Anderson Limited. Mr. Royde began his career in the chemicals industry working for a variety of growth companies including a fertiliser producer and a squash court construction company.
Running River Deputy Chairman John Woolgar said, “Brian, Alistair and Michael are welcome additions to the board, each bringing individual expertise and contacts in both the City and the energy sector.
